mp3 me now!!

mp3...me...now...ouch!!! my ears are bleeding!

mp3 this, mp3 that, mp3 mp3 mp3... it's like the plague!!! there are sooooo mmaaannnyy mp3 programs out there, that i just go numb after awhile. what is most important to me is that: 1) they work 2) they are easy and intuitive to use.    i ain't no rocket scientist, and ease of use is key in my book. i actually enjoy using programs that are more simple and basic in nature, but still do a good job at what you need.
and what you need are these programs!! that's right my friends, these little programs are all you need to rip, encode, and play mp3s [sorry, i mean mp3z] on your very own computer! but wait, there's more!! did i say more?? why yes, i did say that! not only do you get these programs, but since you are my close, personal, and bestest friend in the whole wide world, you can have these programs for free! now don't look so shocked! that is what freeware is all about!! so don't delay and download today!! and please feel free to visit the homepages of these wonderful programs and give the authors a big sun shiny hello!

finally, after months of medication, the happy pills have wore off and the bottle is empty! all this means is that each featured program finally has screenshots and my review, which is also located on the screenshots page. yes it would have made more sense to put the reviews on this page and have only the screenshots on the "screenshots page", but then i would have had to buy more happy pills and nothing would ever get done then. oh well, at least my loss is your gain!

holy mackerel, i've added something new to this page... a very cool mp3 player was brought to my attention today, [Mon, Oct 07, 2002], it is the Japy mp3 player. the three mp3 players that i have {{and mentioned below the freeamp section}}, are a tad old.... and can not be found on the internet anywhere except here. but i'm happy with them, especially Nad [[and... Nad is my primary mp3 player]]. yet, i know that you internet web browsers are a fickle group and you like bells and whistles and skinnable programs and so many buttons and widgets that my feeble mind can barely comprehend the possible uses for them all.
so my suggestion to you is to go get the Japy mp3 player v1.6 beta : 3.29MB zipped download. it's a really cool program, and is freeware. also, please note... no screenshots yet due to laziness :)
the japy website is no longer there, but i downloaded pretty much everything while i could. so as a service to everyone. download what you need from me! it looks like a couple of images are missing from the documentation, but all of the text is there.

some music program i tried needed the MSVCRTD.DLL so if you ever need it, you can get it here: it is a 144KB zipped download. i think it was the deli media player that needed it.

not to be satisfied or out-done! need an audio player that also does it all?!?! go get freeamp or Zinf and they will do it all for you. Zinf is actually based on the freeamp source code.
Zinf and freeamp are for both linux and windows. They both support MP3, Ogg/Vorbis, WAV and Audio CD playback, SHOUTcast/Icecast HTTP streaming, RTP streaming. Use as a music browser, with theme support and a download manager.
http://www.ipv6.polito.it/multimedia/freeamp-v6.htm was the home page for freeamp v2.1.1 modified to support ipv6. no installation is necessary, just unzip to any folder (like C:\freeamp) and you are ready. scroll down a little to download this program or its source code.

okay, now that you got freeamp, here is how to setup your browser to accept streaming audio music:
for mozilla or netscape
edit - preferences
Select Helper Applications
for opera
file - preferences
select file types
next, for all 3 browsers
Select New Type
In the resulting window, you'll enter the following:
File Extension: m3u,pls
MIME Type: audio/x-mpegurl
Application to use: "c:\program files\zinf\zinf.exe %s"
or
Application to use: c:\freeamp\freeamp.exe %s
or
browse to where the application is and add the %s
 
Now, press OK and you should be off and running
